Spectral is expanding its footprint in Poland with several utility-scale projects for Axpo, Switzerland’s largest energy producer and an international leader in energy trading and the marketing of solar and wind power. The projects span 24 MW / 56 MWh of battery storage and a growing pipeline of renewables and storage assets, marking a significant step in Axpo’s next-generation Virtual Power Plant (VPP) operations in Poland.
Poland’s energy system is transforming rapidly. With an ambition to double its share of renewables to 56% by 2030, the country is scaling wind and solar capacity at pace. The growth of renewable generation is creating a greater need for controllable assets and digital infrastructure capable of delivering balancing reserves to the Polish transmission system operator (TSO), PSE. Across several major projects, including Poland’s first operational utility-scale battery energy storage system (BESS), Spectral provides that infrastructure for Axpo.
Across its Polish projects, Axpo is deploying STELLAR, Spectral’s end-to-end VPP platform, as the backbone of its Virtual Power Plant. STELLAR is designed to deliver, and is already doing so for the live BESS asset:

Spectral Integrates Poland’s First Utility-Scale 24 MW / 56 MWh BESS
Axpo brought online the 24 MW / 56 MWh Nowe Czarnowo battery system, developed by Energix. The battery system is Poland’s first operational utility-scale BESS and it is fully integrated into Axpo’s STELLAR-powered VPP. STELLAR’s Battery energy management system (EMS) enables Axpo to dispatch the asset across energy and ancillary service markets, combining wholesale trading with balancing reserve delivery to PSE. The battery forms a critical building block for Axpo’s growing Polish VPP portfolio.
A Growing Pipeline of Renewables and Storage Assets
Axpo is actively expanding its Polish VPP portfolio with additional renewables and storage assets on STELLAR. This includes several utility-scale wind farms that are being integrated as individually controllable scheduling units. Once qualified to the balancing market, the wind farms will be able to deliver ancillary services to PSE via direct LFC integration, transforming them into actively managed balancing assets within Axpo’s growing VPP portfolio.
With the first project live, Spectral demonstrates its ability to provide the digital infrastructure required for utility-scale VPP operations in demanding balancing environments, giving Axpo a scalable foundation to grow its portfolio in Poland’s expanding renewables market.
