YOUR ROLE

Spectral is seeking a (energy control) systems integration developer to join our software team. You will work closely with data scientists, software developers and control systems engineers on integrating robust control systems to optimise energy assets such as renewable energy power plants and storage systems.

An example project that you could be working on:

Energy control system – this enables intelligent management of grid networks, distributed energy resources (DERs) and energy storage. The platform enables many DERs to be aggregated into a virtual power plant which can be deployed for provision of energy services, such as frequency regulation. The total platform includes numerous components, such as: embedded energy management systems, M2M communication interfaces, advanced control and optimization algorithms, physical / cyber security systems, user interfaces (both embedded and cloud-based), sensors and measurement systems.

Your tasks might include:

  • developing control and data logging interfaces for cloud-based control and monitoring (e.g. for smart appliances within a microgrid)
  • liaising with our power systems engineers on designing and implementing local-level controllers (e.g. for wind farms in combination with large-scale energy storage)
  • supporting our engineers in designing Energy Management Systems (e.g. designing and implementing low-level control for a microgrid or smart building EMS)

YOUR PROFILE

You should have a background in systems integration and embedded development for local controllers within mission-critical systems.

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about applying technology to find optimal solutions and capable of adaptively working with different programming languages and frameworks.

You should have a high attention to detail, be a proactive problem solver and work well in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Most of all, we’re looking for someone who is highly motivated to join us on our mission and contribute their efforts to solving the complex challenges presented by the energy transition. Our team is international and based in Amsterdam North. So fluency in written and spoken English is a must and Dutch language skills are definite bonus. The role is full-time.

We work with a wide range of technologies, depending on what is most suitable for the problem at hand in combination with the existing technology that a client may have already selected. So, we are looking for developers who can adapt rapidly to new challenges and are keen to learn.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE

  • 3+ years’ relevant professional work experience
  • Practical experience with systems integration and implementing mission-critical control systems and related principles such as redundancy, high uptime etc.
  • Hands-on experience with developing embedded software on local controllers using embedded development tools
  • Experience with a wide range of communication protocols including: Modbus, OPC, CAN, IEC 61850

DESIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE

  • Good understanding of SCADA systems and existing industry control systems
  • Previous experience of the energy industry and/or technology/protocols related to building automation (Building Management Systems, BACnet)
  • Preferably, a track record of implementations with technology such as Linux, Python, embedded C, Atmel studio, time-series databases and/or automated test tools
  • Familiarity with information security and related standards such as ISO 27000
  • Fluency in English; strong written and verbal communication skills
